Emergency Preparedness & Response Professionals – First Responders, Planners

Emergency Service Providers

People with disabilities may require special care when being evacuated from a home or business, such as, being lifted or carried and transported. Responders need to be prepared to help individuals with disabilities through emergency situations. In addition, it is essential that emergency service providers are able to communicate and use appropriate language with individuals with disabilities.

The Red Cross offers a few tools to offer assistance for training personnel for working with people with disabilities in emergency situations. HDWD would like to also provide you with additional resources about different types of disabilities, communicating with people with disabilities and making community emergency preparedness and response programs more accessible to people with disabilities.
